I finally signed up to "facebook" the other day. I mean I've been resisting cause I know that I'm going to spend more time over there than I should, but I think I'll try it. Not that I will give up this blog, not as long as Ewen and Speedygeoff and a half dozen others, you know who you are, continue to blog.
"Facebook" seems interesting but I don't like when they ask questions like: "What are your favorite books?" And "What are your favorite movies?" I mean I've read a fair bit and of course watched a few movies, still, I feel I always come off like a dill when I say what they are. I just think I'm not as "highbrow" as most. A bit like the following.
Well yes, I like, um, Time Bandits, and, um, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Anyway, I registered with Facebook too, a couple of weeks ago, out of curiosity, and first thoughts are that it's a quick way of connecting with multitudes of like minded people, but that it's time wasting, superficial, and ad-riddled. First thoughts aren't always spot on, I will give it a bit longer. Regardless, the blogging will continue.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is just a bit of fun. I like that fact that your can buy people beers and it doesn't cost anything :-)
ReplyDeletePS Don't tell anyone but I liked The Money Pit better than The Godfather.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either, Tesso. I remember, Razorback is another "bomb" I really liked.
ReplyDeleteI have found Facebook a bit hard to get into. I have made some friends, and it is really surprising how many known friends and acquaintances have taken it up, but I have to admit all those vampire and ask a question and stuff all leave me a bit flat. Well, I wouldn't mind them so much if it was all completely seamless, but you have to keep installing a new application to do it, and then your profile page steadily grows to take on a greater and greater resemblance to a dog's breakfast. And I haven't worked out that mini-feed thing. Maybe one day I will "get it".
ReplyDeleteDon't be fooled, those who have highbrow movies and books have just got them on their shelves, they haven't read them!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to track you down on facebook. I quite like it but it can be a huge timewaster. Good for keeping in touch with my family in the UK though.. well the younger ones anyway.
I don't have a favourite movie. Alien was good. I've watched Grand Canyon a few times. I like Without Limits for the running, Pre, and scenes in Oregon where I've been. Bandits is good, and it uses locations in the US I've visited.
ReplyDeleteFacebook? No, and never will. It reminds me of the movie Enemy of the State. The CIA (maybe ASIO too) use Facebook to profile people 'of interest'. Relax Scott, dills are not that interesting.
Now (apparently) Facebookers receive targeted advertising, as do your 'friends' who have the same hobbies. If the CIA is reading... I am NOT Scott's friend!
Have only looked at facebook when my sister in law and I looked at our nephew's page. Cyber spying by older rellies!! Her kids were smart enough to block theirs. Don't think I'll be joining - I waste enough time in front of the screen as it is.
ReplyDeleteAs for movies, have to admit to having seen The Money Pit and not The Godfather. I love trashy TV but can be a bit of a snob when it comes to books (although I secretly read trashy books at times too, just don't let on).
I work for a law enforcement agency and they blocked our access to facebook so I can't profile anyone! Or waste my day playing tv trivia. I do like facebook and have tracked down some old friends using it. If I find you I will poke you!
