No Man is an Island

  1. Thanks Scott. Running is a unique sport in that we need to know ourselves and how our body & lifestyle respond to training (listening to one's body) and yet it's almost impossible to reach our full potential without good advice/coaching/support. Good athletes are linked with good coaches - Lydiard & Snell, Elliott & Cerutty etc. Good coaching needs to be flexible though in that not every athlete responds the same way to the same type of training. I was lucky to be coached by Geoff (after I'd been running for 9 years) and ran my best with his advice and support.

Group support is important too if we are to reach our potential. I'm reading 'The Way of the Runner' which talks about the ekiden team running being important in the success of Japanese runners.

Anyway, looking forward to the next post.

  2. You were always a great support to me Ewen and, I know, so many others who feel the same way. And when it is done with gentle ribbing it is all the more effective. ;)
