  1. Well, you and me both, in our last 10Ks. As you said, some days you're "on", some days you're not, and who knows why.

    1. Yeah thanks Bob. Nothing for it but to press on. It's the game I suppose and we are like drunk gamblers at a card table, running out of money, shouting "hit me" "hit me" to the dealer. ;)

  2. Something is certainly not right - probably the fact that you're Christmas tree is up in November. Keep plugging away at the old card table Scott & ........Happy Christmas.

  3. Ha ha, I like Grellan's comment! A few thoughts come to mind... perhaps your speed sessions with your mate Vince are leaving you flat? He's too fast for you? I remember well Craig Mottram talking about his speed sessions - the fact that half the blokes in the group could match him, but they were nowhere in races. They flattened themselves to keep up with a bloke who was in much better shape.
The other thought is "taper" - you're not THAT young, so need a good taper and be well rested for an all-out effort over 10k. The VO2Max thingo said 34 minutes, so no reason why you shouldn't be running 35 to 36 at least.
My last thought is not enough all-out racing over 3000 metres (or shorter). If you're relatively quick at 3k, 18-minutes through 5 in a 10 should feel like an easy jog. Can you run 9:45 or so for a track 3k time trial week in, week out? If so, 35 or under for 10k shouldn't be that hard.

    1. Thanks Ewen. Certainly somethings to think about. I might indeed start running a short TT every week from now on.
