Here today, gone......

Yes, Tomorrow I'm leaving on holidays. I'll be back September 1st. I'll be able to continue to read and comment on your blogs which is great, I don't need a holiday from you lot, yet ;)

And I'll continue to run so all I can say now as I sink the last bottle of beer in my home frig, pack the sun tan lotion and a spare lycra thong, is "I love yous all!"

Talk soon.

Can you guess where I'm going? A souvenir to the person that gets it right. The photo above and this post are the only clues. If that is not enough I'll leave you with my favorite Sherlock Holmes quote as said to dear old Watson "You see, but you do not observe. The distinction is clear."

  2. mmmm....Tahiti?

I luv that photo and could do with some of that sun in freezing Canberra. Take care on holidays Scott and all the best to you and the family. Look forward to having you back safe and sound.

  3. With that purple sky it looks like you are heading for a distant planet, but perhaps more likely one of the islands off Japan.. that's nice and vague! Wherever it is, have a lovely time.

  4. Is it Fiji Scott?

Whereever it is, have a great time.

  5. Mmmm TD,

perhaps I threw you off with the "thong" and you made the French connection to Tahiti. Sorry but not there.

And Lulu that is also an educated guess but not anywhere in Japan. If such well travelled people as you and TD can't get it I might be making it a tad too hard but then again you're all marathon runners so you'd be used to hardships ;)

Not Fiji Eddie. How could I get away with coming so close to you there and not dropping in for a chat ;)

  6. Well, knowing what I do about where gaijin go for holidays (if not back to their homeland), my first reaction was to think somewhere in SE Asia. The fact that "Hawaii" was regarded as close throws that off. With a thong in your heart (or wedged in your crack), I tend to think that the most likely candidate is Thailand, though the Philippines is not out of the question. A dark horse, and one that I guess isn't really very likely given your thong-a-thon, is Vietnam. The photo made me think of Halong Bay, but I don't think people have long beach-based holidays there, so I am really tempted to fall back on Thailand. BUT, I can't get the "Hawaii is close" idea out of my head, so I am going to choose, as my FAINARU ANSAH: Guam.

  7. Gosh I hope the thong is footwear.

It'd have to be somewhere warm. Equitorial probably. Probably touristy if you still have internet access. The photo seems islandy.

    Northern Mariana Islands?

  9. Vanuatu? Somewhere off FNQ? Just wild guesses Scott. I'm as thick as two short portions of black fish.

I agree with Stephen, the first place I thought of was Halong Bay, but the islands aren't high enough, and I'm not sure that a lycra thong would be tolerated anyway! It looks like there's multiple islands, so I was thinking Tahiti (because JAL fly direct to Papeete), but that's already out. Based on flight routes, Guam would be my next best guess, but that's already taken, so I'm going to go with Micronesia (but I'm not sure how you'll get there!).

Oh, and I forgot to mention, you might have more fun on the holiday if you don't run in your lycra thong!

  12. Well steve you should never doubt first reactions, but in the final analysis you're off ther money. Still, as I can see the clogs moving I'm going to stop being so recalcitrant and give you all another clue. That was it!

Celeste is thinking too but it's neither North or East of the Marianas.

And not Cuba Tesso. Although I do lean left politically on holidays I'm not so concern and will lean in all and any direction.

No Ewen not Vanuatu. And why do you used the "F" word when describing "North Queensland" it is not such a bad place! ;) I can give you one glue Ewen,. It is somewhere my wfe has never been, and it's not "the kitchen."

Bay you certainly know your oceans and islands but unfortunately I'm not going to Micronesia. I went there 3 years ago and apart from pubs and jokes I rarely visit things twice.

  13. Too easy - Malaysia!

Scott, you are obviously not a Queenslander. FNQ means Far North Queensland. Apparently that's a totally different state to SEQ.

Have a great kitchen-free holiday Scott.

  14. Far out Ewen! You got it! You're far and away the smartest bearded runner from Canberra I know.

Now knowing your penchant for the runs, long and slow ones, a bottle of Satay sauce may be just the perfect souvenir for you.

  15. I thought "take me to the August sun in Cuba" didn't sound right.

Malaysia - you lucky bugger. Make sure you have ikan billis (with chillies of course) for brekky.

  18. Malaysia! I knew it, I knew it, I really did Scott but that spoilsport Ewen got in a head of me. Wah, wah....

Could you do another quizz; this was fun. Perhaps a 'who am I' or a 'what's brown, big and hairy all over' type gig.

I agree with td, the quiz certainly got people interested! Being from SEQ myself (even though I've been in Adelaide 5.5 years) I, like Ewen, have always wondered about the FNQ-SEQ thing. Is there nothing in between that unites them? Is central Queensland (CQ?) that bad that we want to forget it?

Enough of that. Have a fantastic trip, and look forward to seeing a photo or two on your return!

  20. Wow! I'm humbled to be regarded as the smartest bearded runner in Canberra. In the future I'd like to challenge for title of 'smartest bearded runner in Asia'.

I'm also so happy to spoil "Don's Party". He sounded a bit recalcitrant in that comment. Lucky he hasn't got a beard or I'd be worried.

A fridge magnet will do Scott. Easy to post. Have fun. Keep running.

  22. I just remembered to check back and see if this had been sorted out yet. So I was on the right track first up, huh. I don't think I ever would have settled on Malaysia as an answer, though in retrospect it is obvious. Hope you had/are having a wonderful holiday.
