Very sensible advice from your coach as in November you should be able to run at least 5 minutes faster in normal conditions and a comfortable sub 2.50 will have been excellent preparation. However, given that you are going all the way to Hokkaido I think you should go for it and try and maintain 3.50 pace if you feel comfortable early on. I am doing the Mount Akagi 20k on Sunday near Maebashi in Gunma. Four times around the crater lake, it is very undulating but very scenic and well organised. If you are not doing an August marathon next year I would really recommend it. I am using it as one of my main warm up races for Amsterdam in October. pascalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03273232881462903413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34739089.post-4350469077904352042013-08-21T16:28:23.480+09:002013-08-21T16:28:23.480+09:00Yes Ewen I saw how those two were moving up places...Yes Ewen I saw how those two were moving up places throughout the race and was very impressed with their effort in that heat. My coach "Tinman" has said I'd better aim for 2:48:00 because of the heat in Sapporo and that I should target Kobe in November for a faster time.

He is right of course but if the ankle holds up and I get to 30K in reasonable shape I'm going to throw everything at the last 12K and see what happens.
